Commonly known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide sedation offers the benefit of relaxation with no loss of consciousness. A mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen is inhaled through the nose and mouth before performing a dental procedure.  The mixture initially begins as 100% oxygen, and then nitrous oxide is gradually increased over a three to five minute period.  Introducing nitrous oxide into the patient’s system causes lightheadedness and increased relaxation.  After the dental procedure is completed, the nitrous oxide is completely removed from the patient’s system, allowing the patient to function normally and even drive home safely.  At Endless Smile Dental, we offer nitrous oxide sedation to our most fearful patients to allow them to relax while receiving their necessary dental treatment.  Safe and effective, nitrous oxide sedation is the most common form of conscious sedation.
